Marcellus Shale Development and Production Overview
Eight hour intensive training overview of natural gas production, principles, practices, and standards.
American Petroleum Institute (API) 1104 Down-Hand Welding – Level II
This course focuses on the welding process that is commonly used in the oil and natural gas industry. Participants in this advanced training will learn both the theory necessary for success in this process as well as techniques to apply out in the field. Class size is limited to ensure proper participant and instructor time. This course will prepare the participant for the API 1104 6G and T test.
Commercial Driver (CDL) Training Specific for the Oil and Gas Industry
This 180-hour course takes a participant through the process of obtaining a Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). The course will focus upon typical on-road CDL training and include additional training in skills necessary for success in the oil and natural gas industry. Skills such as operating skills on lease roads, high center of gravity loads, and close quarter maneuvering will be studied and practiced. This training is already utilized by many of the leading oil and gas service companies for their current employees.
Hydrogen Sulfide Alive (H2S Alive)
This 4-hour course is designed to improve the awareness of the hazards of working in an H2S environment and provides the student with the basic skills necessary to follow a response strategy to rescue a casualty of H2S poisoning. Objectives are: physical properties and locations of H2S, occupational exposure limits, toxicity levels, scales, supplied air breathing apparatus (SABA), self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) maintenance and operation, formation of H2S and common industrial sites, concentrations and toxic levels, H2S effects on individuals, detection and monitoring, contingency and emergency response plans rescue, first aid techniques, and post-exposure, evaluation.
PEC Basic-SafeGulf/SafeLand Orientation
The PEC Basic-SafeGulf/SafeLand Orientation safety awareness course was designed to take the place of multiple Operator orientations and to give each student a general idea of life and safety issues in the oil and gas industry, upstream, downstream, onshore or offshore. This one-day program meets API RP 75 and API RP T-1 requirements and provides a basic understanding at an awareness level of certain general safety information that an employee should know before entering a company facility and while performing their assigned work duties. Over 25 of the leading oil and gas operators accept this orientation as it meets their requirements. Upon successful completion of course, each student is issued a picture ID with unique barcode. The student information is then stored in an online database. PLEASE BRING PHOTO I.D.
American Petroleum Institute (API) 1104 Down-Hand Welding – Level I
This course focuses on the welding process that is commonly used in the oil and natural gas industry. Participants will be trained in all aspects of pipe welding, starting with up-hand open-root welding. Multiple position welding methods will be addressed to get the participant hands-on application time in multiple positions. Theory and classroom teaching methods will be reinforced with hands-on application of this welding process.
Confined Space
This course presented by Penn College of Technology, will allow the entrant, attendant, or supervisor to safely and confidently understand and evaluate the hazards and procedures associated with confined spaces. This training will help you to differentiate between a Permit- Required confined space and a Non-Permit-Required confined space. The course will address the hazards associated with confined spaces and it will ouline the duties and responsibilities of all members of a confined space entry team, emergency rescue procedures, and plan development. This course will also discuss the need for appropriate personal protective equipment and the selection characteristics for each level of protection. Because the use of instrumentation for monitoring is also essential to any confined space operation, the instruction will address numerous tupes of direct-reading instruments, including their mode of operation and limitations of each tupe. This course will effectively fulfill the requirements of 29 CFR 1910.146 for confined space entry.

Train-the-Trainer
This H2S Train-the-Trainer course is designed to train the participant to deliver the safety and protective measures necessary for worker safety in areas that may contain a risk for Hydrogen Sulfide. The course will focus on both the precautionary measures, as well as mitigation strategies necessary in case of workforce exposure to Hydrogen Sulfide (also known as Sour Gas). This is not an awareness course. The students will be able to issure H2S certification cards. The course will be offered on the campus of Penn College in Williamsport, PA and is sponsored by the Marcellus Shale Education and Training Center and Range Resources Appalachia, LLC. The course will be taught by Ralph Tijerina, CSP. Ralph is the Director of Health, Safety, Environmental, and Security at Range Resources Appalachia and is a Certified Master Trainer in H2S qualified through CHSI in Austin, TX. PARTICIPANTS MUST HAVE AN HSE BACKGROUND AND DOCUMENTED TRAINING EXPERIENCE. RESUMES WILL NEED TO BE SUBMITTED PRIOR TO THE START OF CLASS TO DETERMINE ELIGIBILITY OF PARTICIPANTS. SEATING IS LIMITED SO EMAIL YOUR RESUME AND QUESTIONS TO msetc@pct.edu OR CALL 570-327-4775 AND ASK FOR THE MSETC DIRECTOR OF WORKFORCE TRAINING.
